SOLE:
Round 1: ch12, 1 hdc in 3rd ch, 1 hdc in next 8 ch, 5 hdc in last ch, work across opposite side of foundation ch, 1 hdc in next 9 sts, 5 hdc in last st, slst to join in top of first st (28 sts)
Round 2: ch1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 hdc in next 9 sts, 2 hdc in each of the last 5 sts, slst to join in top of first st. (38 sts) 
Round 3: ch1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts, (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st) x 5, 1 hdc in next 9 sts, (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st) x 5, slst to join in top of first st. (48 sts)

Round 1: ch11, 2dc in 4th ch from the hook, 1dc in each next 6 chs, 6dc in last ch, working into opposite side of foundation ch, 1dc in next 6 sts, 3dc in last st, slst in top of 3rd ch. (24 sts)
Round 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), dc in same st, 2dc in each next 2 sts, 1dc in each next 6 sts, 2dc in each next 6 sts group, work in opposite side, 1dc in each next 6 sts, 2dc in each last 3 sts, slst in top of 3rd ch. (36 sts)

JOIN TWO SOLES TOGETHER:
Place 2 different color soles together right side facing out, using contrast color, sew them together using a slst in each st around the sole. Fasten off.

HEEL: 
Mark 22 sts for the heel with stitch markers at the slst edge (fig. 6).
Row 1: join main color into sl st at marker, ch1, sc in same st, sc in each next 21 sts across to next marker, turn. (22 sts)
Row 2-9: ch1 (counts as a st), sk 1st st, sc in each st across into next 23 sts, turn. (22 sts). Fasten off.

FRONT FLAPS:
Counting from side of heel along edge of sole, sk3, place marker, sk8, place marker. Rpt for the other side.
*Row 1: join main color into st marker st, ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 7 sts, turn. (8 sts)
Row 2-14: ch1, skp 1st st, sc in each next 7 sts, turn.* Break yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fasten off. Using tapestry needle, whip st the flap into opposite edge of heel.

Using contrast color, rpt Row 1-14 above from *to *.
Row 15 (button hole row): ch1, sk 1st st, sc in next st, ch2, sk1, sc in next 2 sts, ch2, sk1, sc in last 2 sts, turn.
Row 16: ch1, sk 1st st, sc next st, sc in next ch-sp, sc in next 2 sts, sc in next ch-sp, sc in last 2 sts. Fasten off. Rpt all steps for second sandal.

FINISHING: 
Sew 2 buttons on side of each heel to line up with button holes. Weave all ends.
