Abbreviations (US Terms)

Unless stated otherwise, this pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round, moving it up each round.

EARS (MAKE 2)
Work in rows. Leave a 4-inch tail of yarn before starting for attaching the Ear to the Head later.
Row 1: Ch6, skip 1 ch, sc in each st ch, turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st throughout), sc, dec, sc 2, turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc, dec, sc, turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, dec, sc, turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, dec. (1 st)
Cut the yarn and fasten off. Weave in the end.
ARMS (MAKE 2)
Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Rounds 2-3 (2 rounds): Sc 8.
Round 4: (Sc 2, dec)x 2. (6 sts)
Round 5: Sc 6.
Round 6: (Sc, dec)x 2. (4 sts)
Round 7: Sc 4.
Flatten the top of the Arm, aligning opposite sts; ch1, insert hook in next 2 opposite sts and make a sc, continue making sc through both layers to close (2 sc total).
Cut the yarn and fasten off.
LEGS (MAKE 2)
Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Round 2: (Sc, inc)x 4. (12 sts)
Round 3: Sc 12.
Round 4: (Sc 2, dec)x 3. (9 sts)
Stuff the Leg.
Round 5: (Sc, dec)x 3. (6 sts)
Cut the yarn and fasten off.
TAIL
Round 1: 6sc in a Magic Ring. (6 sts)
Round 2: (Sc, inc)x 3. (9 sts)
Round 3: (Sc 2, inc)x 3. (12 sts)
Round 4: (Sc 3, inc)x 3. (15 sts)
Round 5: (Sc 2, inc, sc 2)x 3. (18 sts)
Rounds 6-8 (3 rounds): Sc 18.
Round 9: (Sc 7, dec)x 2. (16 sts)
Round 10: (Sc 3, dec, sc 3)x 2. (14 sts)
Round 11: (Sc 5, dec)x 2. (12 sts)
Round 12: (Sc 2, dec, sc 2)x 2. (10 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to attach the Tail to the Body.
HEAD
Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Round 2: Inc around. (16 sts)
Round 3: (Sc, inc)x 8. (24 sts)
Round 4: (Sc 5, inc)x 4. (28 sts)
Round 5: (Sc 6, inc)x 4. (32 sts)
Round 6: (Sc 7, inc)x 4. (36 sts)
Round 7: (Sc 8, inc)x 4. (40 sts)
Rounds 8-11 (4 rounds): Sc 40.
Round 12: {Sc 4, (dec)x 6, sc 4}x 2. (28 sts)
Round 13: {Sc 5, (dec)x 2, sc 5}x 2. (24 sts)
Attach eyes in 15 and 22 sts of Round 7. th nd
Round 14: (Dec)x 12. (12 sts)
Stuff the Head. Do not fasten off.
BODY
Continue working from the Head.
Round 15: (Sc, inc)x 6. (18 sts)
Round 16: (Sc 2, inc)x 6. (24 sts)
In the next round, you will crochet the Arms on the Body. When indicated in the pattern, insert your hook in the first st of the Arm, then insert your hook in the next st of the Body, then complete a sc through both layers. Continue to sc through both layers across the Arm (2 sc total).
Note: You want the Arms to be on the sides of the Body. Adjust their position for your Fox if necessary.
Round 17: Sc 4, (join first Arm) sc 2, sc 10, (join second Arm) sc 2, sc 6. (24 sts)
Round 18: (Sc 2, inc)x 8. (32 sts)
Rounds 19-23 (5 rounds): Sc 32.
Stuff the Body.
Round 24: (Sc 2, dec)x 8. (24 sts)
Round 25: (Sc, dec)x 8. (16 sts)
Round 26: (Dec)x 8. (8 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn tail through each st of the last round and pull to close. Hide the yarn end inside the Body.
ATTACHING THE EARS
Using sewing pins, pin the Ears on the Head between Rounds 2 and 5.
Using the yarn tail of each Ear, sew the Ears on the Head.
Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.
ATTACHING THE LEGS
Using sewing pins, pin the Legs between Rounds 21 and 23 of the Body.
Using the yarn tail from each Leg, sew the Legs on the Body.
Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.
ATTACHING THE TAIL
Using sewing pins, pin the Tail to the back of the Body, slightly tilted to the side.
Using the yarn tail from the Tail, sew the Tail on the Body.
Secure the yarn end, then hide it inside the toy.
EMBROIDERING THE NOSE AND MOUTH
With black cotton yarn, embroider the nose centered between the eyes by making 3 sts, one on top of the other, spanning 2 sts of Round 8 of the Head (see photo in downloadable ODF).
Next, make a vertical st between Rounds 8 and 10 of the Head.
Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.
