- Gauge: 4x4" / 10x10 cm = 14 sts x 13 rounds in hdcCheck stitch gauge to ensure a good fit. Row gauge is not crucial but will affect drape and yarn usage.

Each round ends with a slip stitch into the first hdc of the round. The next round starts with a ch1, hdc into that same stitch. Rounds are not turned. Chain at beginning of round does not count as a stitch.
Pattern

Start with Magic Ring, or ch3 and join with sl st in 1st ch to make ring.
Round 1: Ch1, 6hdc into ring, sl st into first hdc to join. (6 sts)
Round 2: Ch1, hdc 6, placing markers on first and fourth st, sl st to join.
Round 3 (Increase Round): Ch1, 2hdc in 1st st (replacing marker on 1st hdc),hdc in each st to 1st marker, 2hdc in marked st (replacing marker on 1st hdc), hdc to end, sl st to join. (2 sts increased)
Round 4: Ch1, hdc around, sl st to join.
Round 5: Work as Round 3. (2 sts increased)
Rounds 6-7: Work as Round 4.
Rep Rounds 3-7 until you have 52 (58, 62, 68, 76) sts, or until desired circumference is reached, making sure you have an even number of stitches.
Note: Hat circumference should be 8-10% smaller than head circumference.
Rep Round 4 for 3.5 (4, 4.5, 5, 5.5)"/ 8.5 (10, 11, 12.5, 14) cm.
Turn work to begin Puff Stitch border: *ps into next hdc, FPslst around post 2 rounds above next st, sk1; rep from *to end. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends. Block as desired. Make 2.5" / 6.5 cm pom pom, using a small amount of strong yarn to tie it at the center, and attach securely to top of hat.
