Abreviations (US terms)

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • PPS: Puffy Post Stitch  (see Special Stitches section below)
  • rep: repeat

  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • Stacked DC: double crochet used for the beginning stitch of each row (see Special Stitches section below)
  • yo: yarn over

Special Stitches

PPS=Puffy Post Stitch, worked over next 4 stitches:
DC in next stitch. Then working around post of DC one row below stitch just worked, from the front, (yo hook, insert hook around post, pull up a loop) twice, yo hook, pullthrough 4 loops on hook, skip next st, then working around post of next st, from thefront, (yo hook, insert hook around post, pull through loop) twice, yo hook, pullthrough 4 loops on hook, yo hook and pull through last 3 loops on hook. DC in same st as last Post stitch. DC in next stitch.

Stacked DC:
Insert hook in first st and pull up a loop, yo hook and pull through 2 loops on hook, insert hook through left leg of sc just made, pull through loop yo hook and pull through 2 loops on hook.


Notes

  • Blanket is worked flat in rows.

  • Stitch pattern uses an 8-row repeat. To alter the length, add multiples of rows 5 through 12 before starting row 85.

  • Keep puff stitches relaxed for soft drape and definition.

Orientation Note

  • The blanket is worked from the top down. Puffy Post Stitches will appear upside down when viewing your work from the foundation row. Once the blanket is oriented top-to-bottom as in the photos, the “V” shapes will align correctly.

Pattern

Download a printable pattern PDF

Using Foundation SC, make a starting chain using 169 stitches (an Odd Multiple of 8, plus 1. Sample uses 8x21 plus 1 = 169 stitches.)
NOTE: turn your work at the end of each row but Do Not Ch 1.
Row 1. Stacked DC in 1st st, DC in each remaining st to end.
Row 2. Stacked DC in 1st st, PPS in each remaining st to end.
Rows 3 and 4. Rep 1 and 2.
Row 5. Rep 1.
Row 6. Stacked DC in 1st st, PPS x 4, *DC in next 8 st, PPS x 2; repeat from * to the last 8 st. PPS x 2.
Rows 7 and 8. Rep 5 and 6.
Row 9. Rep 1.
Row 10. Stacked DC in 1st st, *PPS x2, DC in next 8 st; repeat from * to the last 8 st. PPS x 2.
Rows 11 and 12. Rep 9 and 10.
Rows 13 through 84. Rep 5 through 12.
Rows 85 through 88. Rep 5 through 8.
Rows 89 through 92. Rep 1 through 4.
Row 93. SC in each st across.

Tie off. Weave in tails.

FINISHING

Lightly wet block to even out stitches and enhance texture.
Optional: Add a small woven or faux-leather “KnitPal Made With Joy” tag to one corner.
