Twilight Owl - Free Crochet Pattern

Twilight Owl - Free Crochet Pattern

Meet Twilight Owl, an adorable little nighttime friend who's ready to bring a touch of cozy charm to your crochet collection! With her soft, rounded body, tiny wings, pointed ear tufts, and sweet sleepy eyes, this lovable owl is full of personality. Her delicate embroidered eyelashes and bright orange beak give her an irresistibly peaceful expression, making her a delightful addition to any handmade amigurumi collection.

This easy amigurumi crochet pattern is worked primarily in continuous rounds using simple single crochet stitches and increases. You'll crochet Twilight Owl's little wings separately before joining them directly to her rounded body as you work. The top is sewn closed to create her distinctive pointed ear tufts, while two crocheted eye patches, embroidered sleepy eyes, and a tiny orange beak bring Twilight Owl to life.

Whether you're an owl lover, an amigurumi enthusiast, or simply looking for a relaxing crochet project, Twilight Owl is sure to bring a little handmade magic to your crochet hook!

Rounds 5-10 (6 rounds): Sc 24.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

BODY

Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Round 2: (Inc)x 8. (16 sts)
Round 3: (Sc, inc)x 8. (24 sts)
Round 4: (Sc 2, inc)x 8. (32 sts)
Round 5: (Sc 3, inc)x 8. (40 sts)
Round 6: (Sc 4, inc)x 8. (48 sts)
Round 7: (Sc 11, inc)x 4. (52 sts)
Round 8: (Sc 6, inc, sc 6)x 4. (56 sts)
Round 9: (Sc 13, inc)x 4. (60 sts)
Round 10: (Sc 7, inc, sc 7)x 4. (64 sts)
Rounds 11-20 (10 rounds): Sc 64.

In the next round, you will crochet the Wings on the Body. When indicated in the pattern, flatten the opening of the Wing and line it up against the next sts of the Body, insert your hook in 2 opposite sts of the Wing, then insert your hook in the next st of the Body, then complete a sc through all 3 layers. Continue to sc through all 3 layers across the Wing (12 sc total).

Round 21: (Join first Wing) sc 12, sc 20, (join second Wing) sc 12, sc 20. (64 sts)
Rounds 22-37 (16 rounds): Sc 64.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Stuff the Body.

Using a tapestry needle and a 10-inch-long piece of the yarn used for the Body, sew the top of the Body closed: flatten the top of the Body so that the wings are on the sides of the Body, then sew opposite sts together to close.

Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the Body.

EYE PATCHES (MAKE 2)

Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Round 2: (Inc)x 8. (16 sts)
Round 3: (Sc, inc)x 8. (24 sts)
Sl st in the 1st st of Round 3.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the Eye Patch to the Body.

ATTACHING THE EYE PATCHES

Using sewing pins, pin the Eye Patches on the Body between Rounds 23-31.
Using the yarn tails from the Eye Patches, sew the Patches on the Body.
Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.

EMBROIDERING THE EYES

With black cotton yarn, embroider an eye on each Eye Patch. First, make 1 long st, spanning 8 sts of Round 2 of the Eye Patch, following the curve of Round 2 (see photo in downloadable PDF).
Next, make 3 small vertical sts, spanning 1 round, over top of the previous long st, securing the long curve in place while also creating eyelashes.
Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.

EMBROIDERING THE BEAK

First, use sewing pins to mark two points in Round 25 of the Body, 3 sts apart, centered between the Eye Patches (see photos in downloable PDF). With orange cotton yarn, embroider 3 sts, one on top of the other, between these two points.

Next, mark another point in Round 23, centered between the two points in Round 25. Continuing with the orange cotton yarn and using this last marked point as a guide, complete the beak by embroidering a ‘V’ shape (creating a triangle) and filling it in with stitches.

Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.
