RIBBED WAIST
With MC, cast on 108 (120, 132) stitches. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist.
Round 1: *P1, K1; rep from * to end.
Rep Round 1 for a TOTAL of 7 (9, 11) rounds in MC, and then 1 (1, 1) round in CC. Length: approximately 1 (1.25, 1.5)” / 2.5 (3, 4) cm.
SKIRT
Set Up round: with CC, purl all stitches in the round.
Round 1 (MC): *sl2 wyib, K10; rep from * to end.
Round 2 (MC): Rep Round 1.
Round 3 (CC): *sl2 wyib, K10; rep from * to end.
Round 4 (CC): *sl2 wyib, P10; rep from * to end.
Round 5 (MC): K6, *sl2 wyib, K10; rep from * to last 6 sts, sl2 wyib, K4.
Round 6 (MC): rep Round 5.
Round 7 (CC): K6, *sl2 wyib, K10; rep from * to last 6 sts, sl2 wyib, K4.
Round 8 (CC): P6, *sl2 wyib, P10; rep from * to last 6 sts, sl2 wyib, P4. Rep Rounds 1-8 for a TOTAL of 11 (14, 17) times, and then work Rounds 1-3 once more. Bind off purl wise in CC.
Break yarns and weave in ends. Length: approximately 9.75 (12, 14.75)” / 25 (30.5, 37.5) cm from cast on (waist) to bind off (hem).
STRAPS
It is suggested to work both straps at the same time, using both yarn ends of the skein, to ensure they are the same length. As it is double knitting, there is no true RS or WS.
Cast on 16 sts for each strap, in MC, using both ends of the skein OR separate the remaining yarn into two balls. Do not join the stitches, keep them as separate straps.
Row 1 : *K1, slip 1 purl wise wyif, yb: rep from * to end.
Rep Row 1, for a total of 22 (25.5, 28)” / 56 (65, 71) cm.
Slide the stitches to the opposite end of the needle so that the “working” yarn is on the “end” of the row. Bind off as follows: Slip the knit stitch knitwise, *slip the purl stitch purlwise, PSSO, slip the knit stitch knitwise, PSSO, rep from * to last stitch. Slip purl stitch purlwise, reverse the order of the last two stitches so the purl can be passed over the knit.
Break yarn and weave in ends.
FINISHING
Sew the straps into the waistband from the WS, matching the edge of the strap to the first row after the waist ribbing, to allow the ribbing to still stretch on its own. Front straps should be attached about 3.5 (4, 4.5)” / 9 (10, 11.5) cm apart from inside edge to edge. Back straps should criss cross and be attached approximately 5.5 (6, 6.5)” / 14 (15, 16.5) cm apart from inside edge to edge, closer to the sides. Optional: sew snaps to the ends of the straps and inside of waistband, same areas (see photo for placement).
