Knit Front & Back
Knit into the front of the stitch as you normally would, then, instead of letting the stitch slide off the left needle as usual, you insert the right needle into the back of the same stitch and knit it. Having knit into the front and into the back of the stitch, it’s now safe to let it slide off the needle. And that’s it, you’ve created a new stitch!
Notes
- You will need to know how to Cast On with your preferred method (German Long Tail was used for the sample project), work a Knit stitch, Purl stitch, Slip Slip Knit (SSK) decrease, Knit 2 Together (K2Tog) decrease, Knit Front and Back (KFB) increase, and Bind Off (traditional and 3-needle). You will also need to know how to work both “flat” (turning your work for each row) and “in the round” (joining the row ends and continuing around without turning the work).
-
When changing yarn color, do NOT cut the old color. Simply drop the yarn and carry the new color over the old color to begin using it.
-
At every 2nd row, twist the unused yarn over the yarn in use to make a neater edge as the yarn is carried up, even if you are not changing color on the next row.
