What You’ll Need

  • Yarn: 
    KnitPal Cotton Alpaca Tweed (#3 DK, 60% cotton/20% alpaca/20%polyamide, 147 yds/50g), approximately 100 yds total

    Sample uses The Colorful Pack: Blue Tweed, Green Tweed, Brown Tweed, Red Tweed, Orange Tweed, and Purple Tweed.

  • Hook:
    US G / 4mm crochet hook
    Or size needed to obtain gauge

  • Notions: 

    Tapestry needle
    Stitch markers

  • Skill Level: Easy
  • Gauge: 4" / 10 cm = 16 sts in pattern. Gauge is not crucial but will affect finished size and fabric.
  • Sizes: Width: 5"/12.5 cm

    Length: 55"/140 cm

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • MR: magic ring
  • sc: single crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch

Notes

  • Turning ch3 counts as a dc throughout.


Pattern

GRANNY SQUARE (make 2 of each color, 12 total) 

Round 1: MR, ch3 (counts as a dc), dc in ring, *ch2, 2dc in ring; repeat from * 6more times; ch2, sl st into top of first ch3 to join.

Pull beginning tail to close. (16 sts)

Round 2: Sl st in next dc and next space, ch3, 3dc in same space, 4dc in next space, *ch3 (corner space), 4dc in each of next 2 spaces; repeat from * around, ending with ch3, sl st to join to turning ch. (32 sts)

Round 3: Ch3, *dc in next dc and in each dc to next corner space, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) all in corner space; repeat from * around, sl st to join. (48 dc)

Round 4: Repeat Round 3. (64 dc)

Fasten off and break yarn.

FINISHING

With right sides facing each other, seam 2 squares together along one edge using sl st in back loops. Repeat with all squares.

Join yarn in right corner of first square, ch1, sc in same stitch, sc around entire scarf, working 2sc in each corner.

Weave in ends, wash and dry flat.
