WINGS (MAKE 2)
Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Round 2: Inc around. (16 sts)
Round 3: (Sc 3, inc)x 4. (20 sts)
Round 4: (Sc 2, inc, sc 2)x 4. (24 sts)
Rounds 5-6 (2 rounds): Sc 24.
Round 7: (Sc 2, dec, sc 2)x 4. (20 sts)
Round 8: Sc 20.
Round 9: (Sc 3, dec)x 4. (16 sts)
Round 10: Sc 16.
Flatten the top of the Wing, aligning opposite sts; ch1, insert hook in next 2 opposite sts and make a sc, continue making sc through both layers to close (8 sc total).
Cut the yarn and fasten off.
HEAD AND BODY
Round 1: 8sc in a Magic Ring. (8 sts)
Round 2: Inc around. (16 sts)
Round 3: (Sc, inc)x 8. (24 sts)
Round 4: (Sc 2, inc)x 8. (32 sts)
Rounds 5-12 (8 rounds): 32 sc.
Round 13: (Sc, inc)x 16. (48 sts)
In the next round, you will crochet the Wings on the Body. When indicated in the pattern, line the Wing up against the next stitches of the Body, insert your hook in the first st of the Wing, then insert your hook in the next st of the Body, then complete a sc through both layers. Continue to sc through both layers across the Wing (8 sc total).
Round 14: Sc 8, (join first Wing) sc 8, sc 16, (join second Wing) sc 8, sc 8. (48 sts)
Rounds 15-22 (8 rounds): Sc 48.
Attach the eyes in 13 & th 19th sts of Round 7. Stuff the Head and Body.
Round 23: (Dec)x 24. (24 sts)
Round 24: (Dec)x 12. (12 sts)
Round 25: (Dec)x 6. (6 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn tail through each st of the last round and pull to close. Hide the yarn end inside the Body.
EMBROIDERING THE BEAK
With orange cotton yarn, embroider the beak centered between the eyes by making a “V” between Rounds 8 and 9 of the Head. Make 2 sts, one on top of the other, for each side of the “V” (see photos in downloadable PDF).
Secure the yarn ends, then hide them inside the toy.
